Manassas Next - Schools
Manassas Next focuses on our Schools as the first pillar in supporting our move forward. Everyone knows that schools do the heavy lifting of integration but they are also central in retaining existing residents and attracting new residents. If we build the right kind of programs in our schools, we can lay the foundation for a City that our children can grow up, live and work in. A true life-cycle City. This notion is crucial as employers also judge schools when relocating or expanding their operations.
What I propose is to start a Science & Technology program in our schools. Many of the pieces for this program are already present in our schools. We simply need program specialists to pick up these pieces, fill in some missing parts and assemble the programs in a coherent manner. I very much doubt that we can fully execute this type of program without adding teachers so it will cost extra money but I believe the cost of this program is worth it.
My kid goes to public schools. I believe in our public schools but there are some who are less sure. Manassas must deliver
first-class schools for all residents of all capabilities. Call it smart, call it enlightened self-interest. It really doesn't matter.
