Manassas Next - what is it?

Manassas Next is an initiative that takes a holistic approach to making our hometown a better place.  Manassas is a unique location in Northern Virginia. We have many long-time residents and a distinct sense of community that other areas in NOVA just do not have and desperately want.  We  have to leverage this advantage and act now if we are to preserve that sense of community.

Despite our strengths, we are in the fight of our lives and Manassas is having a tough time making headway right now. This is due to our fragmented approach to strategic planning.  Manassas Next is designed to provide a way forward by providing short-term goals and longer term direction.

Understand that beyond the contest that localities fight everyday for business activity,  Manassas is now, more than ever, fighting for residents. Many of our long-time residents (and not just the rich ones) have left for Gainesville and we simply cannot tolerate any more flight to the west. We must rededicate ourselves towards operating a world-class City.

One last thing, this is not an official City website of any sort. Manassas Next is community idea, not a City policy - at least not yet. However, it is would be a good place for the City to head for.

How to fix it?

Well, we are going to launch a go to the moon effort to save our City. Singular initiatives that address individual problems are great when problems are limited in scope but that is not the situation we find ourselves in. A narrow agenda will not bring Manassas back to the top of the heap. Comprehensive planning that addresses many areas at once is the only way to do this. To this end, Manassas Next consists of 5 pillars:

  • Schools
  • Vision/Image
  • Housing Stock
  • Economic Development
  • Efficient Government

About Us

Manassas Next is a collusion between shadowy private sector king-makers and public officials. No, seriously, it is simply a group of concerned citizens trying to advance an agenda. At least one of us looks like this: If you have ideas or feedback, please email Andy Harrover!
